When the West Midlands Ghostbusters gave us a call, we knew this wasn’t just another typical foam craft project. They wanted the one, the only, the infamous green glutton -Slimer! And who were we to refuse such a slimy, spectacular challenge?
From Concept to Craft: Bringing Slimer to Life
Our journey began in the foam-filled depths of Arkham Armoury’s workshop. Starting with a pile of high-quality EVA foam and a vision of ectoplasmic excellence, we set out to create a life-sized version of everyone’s favourite ghostly gourmand. We’re talking about a ghost with an appetite so big, it could rival your average Sunday roast!
Step 1: Sculpting the Slime We began by cutting and assembling the basic shape, focusing on capturing Slimer’s distinctive round physique and expressive, food-craving face. Our foam was meticulously sculpted, ensuring every curve and crease was perfect. By the end of this stage, Slimer was starting to take shape, albeit without his signature green glow.
Step 2: Adding the Details Next, we got into the nitty-gritty details. Slimer’s menacingly adorable teeth were carefully crafted to look just the right amount of gross. His bulging eyes, the epitome of mischief, were painted to perfection. The goal was to create a prop so detailed, it might just start snacking on the set.
Step 3: Painting the Poltergeist Once the structure was complete, we moved on to the painting stage. Using layers of vibrant green and subtle shading, Slimer’s iconic colour came to life. We made sure every detail, from his creepy tongue to his slobber-ready mouth, was painted to ghoulish perfection.
The Big Reveal
When we finally unveiled Slimer to the West Midlands Ghostbusters, their reactions were priceless. Our workshop echoed with laughter and excitement as the ghostbusters marvelled at the foam crafted masterpiece. They even joked about needing to keep their snacks locked up to prevent our newly-created Slimer from munching away!
In Action: Slimer on the Scene
Slimer made his grand debut at a local event, and it’s safe to say he stole the show. Kids and adults alike couldn’t get enough of him, proving that this slimy spectre still holds a special place in everyone’s heart (or stomach).
